Idea

“Yona - The Game” tries to show what life could look like if we keep on ignoring the threats of technology. We want to encourage people to rethink about the way they use technology and make them aware of how much they are being influenced by media and advertisers in our current time. In our everyday life we are mostly focusing on the benefits of new media, but tend to forget about the downsides that every technological advance brings.

As Multimedia Production students we are heavy users of modern technology ourselves. With our game we want to dive deeper into a topic that is getting more and more important in our modern age and time. In order to create the most immersive experience for the user, we decided to develop Yona as a virtual reality game. It traps the user in the middle of a world and confronts many of his senses, while still providing the possibility for interaction.

Team

Julia Leu

Julia Leu - Project leader

Julia’s role was to lead the group without getting distracted by the technical part of the game too much. She was making sure the group was on the right track and moving forward at all times. Julia was making sure that the other team members could focus on their tasks without getting bothered from administrative tasks or other organizational issues. She was leading the meetings, writing the protocol and planning the overall project. She also managed the communication with teachers and handled any project-based issues.

Julia was extremely valuable to the team as she was ensuring everyone got what they needed and everyone did what they had to. Without her, the team wouldn’t have been able to work together as efficiently, focussed and happily as it did.

Rebecca Gangl

Rebecca Gangl - Technical Director, 3D-Modelling, Animation and Programming

Producing a VR-Game was Rebecca’s idea in the first place. As she had some experience with modelling already she had the lead of the technical part of the project. She had the overview of the technical realization of the project and ensured that no details would be forgotten. Her main tasks were 3D-modelling of the city and the drones, putting everything together in Unity and doing the programming of the whole game.

The game would not have been possible without Rebecca’s dedication and time effort. Several factors were significant for the success of the project: Her patience with the code, watching tutorial after tutorial or figuring out how to bring the game to life.

Remo Moser

Fabian Sommer - Design, Animation and Audio

Fabian put color and form into our game. He was responsible for the User Interface design and color scheme of the whole project. He also designed, created and brought to life any animation, interaction tool or logo visible in the game. As if color and UI design were not enough, Fabian also gave any interaction just the right sound. He was also responsible for finding the right voices that transport the feeling we wanted to transmit.

Fabian has got an incredible eye for design and aesthetics. Whenever there was the need of an interaction tool or logo he surprised us with his great work that suited the design of Yona perfectly. He made the look of our game complete.

Fabian Sommer

Remo Moser - 3D-Design, 3D-Modelling and Audio

Remo basically created Yona from scratch. He drew and developed almost everything that can be seen in the game. He designed all the rooms, buildings, drones, the beach and even a floor-plan of the whole city. As soon as he had them drawn, he also modelled them in Maya. Furthermore he created several ads for different fictional companies in Yona and did the sound design of the propaganda video (Teaser).

Remo’s creative work including his draft of a complete city made Yona come alive and were of significant value for the project. Also, he helped the team a lot with his vast knowledge of the game scene and his feedbacks that were full of new ideas and improvements.

Nadia Etter

Nadia Etter - Storytelling, Web development and Audio

Nadia combined our ideas and created the story of the game. She was also responsible for the storyboard. Furthermore she created the ambience sound for all rooms in the game, which is invaluable for having the right atmosphere in every moment. If that weren’t enough, she drew from her experience in web design and was responsible for our beautiful website. Last but not least, Nadia was responsible for contacting the media and organizing material for their publication.

Nadia also took care of numerous smaller tasks that had to be done but were extremely important for the success of the game. With her endless effort and motivation she helped the whole project significantly and was a great value for the team.
